Maker Spotlight: Rick Nolan of Ricker Woodworx

MADE WITH MASSO

Maker Spotlight: Rick Nolan of Ricker Woodworx – Crafting with Passion and Precision in Ohio

By: Jason Davies

Date: 24 April 2025

When Rick Nolan retired, he didn’t slow down—he carved out a new path, quite literally. Based in Ohio, Rick is the creative force behind Ricker Woodworx, and he’s been making waves in the CNC world with his precision-crafted designs and heartfelt projects, powered by his MASSO G3 Touch controller.

With over 35 years in the fabrication and engineering field, Rick’s journey into CNC began nearly a decade ago when he built his first machine from plans. That DIY spirit still drives him today. “I see a vision—an idea from a client—and I bring that thought to life using VCarve Pro. From there, I save it on a flash drive and take it to MASSO,” Rick explains.

His current setup includes a Onefinity Journeyman 32 x 48, which was upgraded as part of a beta testing program with a MASSO G3 Touch controller and closed-loop motors. The result? Faster, cleaner carves and a more seamless creative workflow. “Since I’ve had MASSO, my carves have been faster and more crisp,” he says.

Rick is deeply connected to the CNC community, actively participating in multiple groups where ideas, files, and inspiration are freely shared. “It’s amazing—the doors CNC has opened for me. I’ve met so many knowledgeable, wonderful people,” he shares. Always up for a challenge, Rick has recently begun exploring laser work and is eager to dive into rotary carving next (and maybe another MASSO system to help with that!).

What makes Rick’s work especially meaningful is the personal passion he pours into each project. Guided by his faith, many of his creations reflect his belief that “with God, all things are possible.”

We’re proud to support makers like Rick who are building, learning, and sharing every day. Want to follow his journey? Keep an eye out for Ricker Woodworx—you’re sure to be inspired.
