What is a braked motor?
Closed-loop stepper motors are designed to move and position themselves with precision, ensuring consistent and repeatable movements when powered. These motors rely on magnetic fields to generate the torque needed to move an axis.
However, for vertical Z axes, gravity continuously pulls down any weight attached to them. While larger motors with stronger magnets can counteract this force when powered, what happens when the machine is turned off for the night?
How does it work?
MASSO braked stepper motors address this issue by engaging a friction brake disc on the motor shaft when the power is turned off. This brake prevents the shaft from moving, ensuring the vertical Z axis remains securely in place even when the magnetic field is no longer active.
