See your Spindle RPM on
the MASSO screen
When you look at the spindle section of the F2 screen you will see a label which says RPM. This is where the spindle speed is displayed but more than likely yours will say 0 when the spindle is running
The RPM is actually showing the speed read for the encoder input on your MASSO. Not many mill and router spindles have an encoder built into them which means that the RPM shows as 0.
Some VFDs have a spindle speed output on them which can be connected to the encoder input on MASSO but when you do this you will find that the VFD doesn’t actually know the spindle speed but simply outputs a speed based on the RPM that MASSO requested.
There is only one way to get the true speed of the spindle and that is to use an encoder attached to the spindle and read the speed from there.
For those who do have a pulsed output or an encoder on their spindle it can be connected to the A encoder input on MASSO G3 or MASSO Touch and MASSO will display the spindle speed the spindle speed.

For those who do not have an encoder but want to see an RPM displayed when the spindle is turned on there is a simple way to do this. Simply set the the Encoder (Pulses per revolution) on the Main Spindle Settings page to 0.

This will tell MASSO that there is no encoder installed and it will display the requested spindle speed on screen rather than 0 as it normally does.

Note that this is not the actual spindle RPM but the requested RPM.
The only way to see the actual RPM is to install an encoder on the spindle output and read it directly.
